BRIEF HISTORY OF KIA
What is currently known as the Kia Motor Company was founded in 1944, and thirteen years later, the first domestic bicycle was produced by Kia. The 1960’s saw the introduction of several models of trucks. In 1957, the very first Kia logo (brand mark) was created, and in 1971 Kia Service Co., Ltd. was established. In 1973, production of the first gasoline engine was launched, and the 1970’s and 80’s saw the introduction of numerous other models.
The 1980’s saw continued production of new models, and in 1986 a redesigned Kia logo was introduced. Between 1987 and 1994, several models were launched including the Pride, Concord, Capital, Potentia, Sephia, Towner Coach, Sportage, and in 1994, a new logo was designed to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary. In 1959, Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group was founded, and the Kia Optima and Kia Spectra were launched in 2000. Two years later, in 2002, production of Kia vehicles broke the ten million units mark; that same year, the now hugely popular Sorento was introduced.

In 2004, the current logo of Kia was introduced to coincide with the release of the new Sportage. In 2008, Kia opened its new U.S. headquarters and design center, the same year it won the Presidential Award for Design Management. 2008 also saw the launch of the Kia Soul, one of the most popular Kia vehicles on the road today. In 2009, Kia launched the Forte LPI Hybrid, the all-new Sorento and the Cadenza, and in 2013 the Kia Optima was named the “International Car of the Year.”
